Ji Zhou
Bio
Graduated from the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing, he later received an MFA from the University of Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne. His quiet observation of contemporary society is reflected in his works based on objects, captured in photography or sculpture.
Statement
His works explore fragmented and whole images, comprised of images of objects and installations that are not always what they claim to be. His "Dust" series, exhibited at fairs in Asia and "The Armory Show" in NY (2013), explores the perceived image of hand-assembled objects, reproduced in a monotone gray to give more importance to the form of the sculptures. . His "Civilized Landscape" series explores illusory man-made landscapes; Using maps and books, he creates mountains and buildings in carefully crafted installations and then photographs them.
