Evan Gruzis
Bio
He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Wisconsin in 2002 and his Master of Fine Arts degree from Hunter College in New York in 2008.
His work has been exhibited around the world in spaces such as David Zwirner, Deitch Projects, and the Museo d'Arte Contemporanea in Rome and is in various private and public collections including the Whitney Museum of American Art. He has published several monographs and is affiliated with The Hole (New York), DUVE (Berlin) and the Saks gallery (Geneva). He is also an adjunct professor in the Department of Painting at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
Statement
Evan Gruzis is an interdisciplinary artist known for his rigorous ink and watercolor technique that combines vacuous imagery with seductive lighting. Recently, his work has expanded to include video, installation, and abstraction as he explores the psycho-spiritual aspects of visual culture.
