Miguel Angel Polick
Bio
He graduated from the specialty of Painting at the Faculty of Art and Design of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru, where he was awarded two Adolfo Winternitz awards (2010-2011). He has studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts at the University of Barcelona, Spain. During those years, his pictorial work had a strong inclination towards photorealism, mainly personal environments, urban landscapes and later an interest in working from the imaginary of the 90's generation. In 2015, he would participate in the exhibition Rever: memory and reticence at the Cultural Center of Fine Arts, where his interest in appealing to that generational collective memory of the 90s in the local context would be further developed.
Statement
Polick links subjective personal memory to broader social and political contexts linked to the graphic archive and television programming of Japanese anime and manga. This is evidenced in the exhibitions: Post pop. Views from/to the East at the Impakto Gallery (2016) and Contemporary Perceptions at the Ccori Wasi Cultural Center of the Ricardo Palma University (2017), Fanfiction 91 (Lima, 2018) and Read on the back (Lima, 2019), the latter at the Impact Gallery.
His work is currently in various private collections in Peru and abroad.
